Again, as evening's shadow falls,

We gather in these hallowed walls;

And vesper hymn and vesper prayer

Rise mingling on the holy air.

May struggling hearts that seek release

Here find the rest of God's own peace;

And, strengthened here by hymn and prayer,

Lay down the burden and the care.

O God, our Light! to Thee we bow;

Within all shadows standest Thou;

Give deeper calm than night can bring;

Give sweeter songs than lips can sing.

Life's tumult we must meet again,

We cannot at the shrine remain;

But in the spirit's secret cell

May hymn and prayer forever dwell.

Novamente, quando a sombra da noite cai,

Nos reunimos nestas paredes sagradas;

E o hino vesperal e a oração vesperal

Se elevam misturando-se no ar santo.

Que corações aflitos que buscam libertação

Aqui encontrem o descanso da paz de Deus;

E, fortalecidos aqui por hinos e orações,

Deixem de lado o fardo e a preocupação.

Ó Deus, nossa Luz! a Ti nos curvamos;

Dentro de todas as sombras, Tu estás;

Dá um acalmar mais profundo do que a noite pode trazer;

Dá canções mais doces do que lábios podem cantar.

O tumulto da vida devemos enfrentar novamente,

Não podemos permanecer no santuário;

Mas no secreto recanto do espírito

Que hino e oração habitem para sempre.
