Tuesday night parking lot
Snow melting underneath the tires
You kept the engine running
Like you already wanted to leave
The radio barely worked
Static cutting through the speakers
You asked if I'd been sleeping lately
I laughed and changed the subject
We talked for almost an hour
About work
About movies
About people we used to know
Everything except us
The windows fogged up slowly
Your coffee cup sat untouched
And somewhere near the exit sign
A train passed through the dark
I remember thinking
This is what endings actually look like
Not screaming
Not slamming doors
Just two tired people
Too exhausted to fix anything
Tuesday night parking lot
Your headlights disappearing through the snow
And me sitting there another ten minutes
Pretending I wasn't about to miss you already
