The Blueprint Of a Memory

Jaxson Miller

I'm writing on a paper
Yellowed by time
Trying to find the rhythm, trying to find the rhyme
Tracing the floorplans of a house made of ghosts
Of the things I've loved
And lost the most
The ink is fading, but the lines are deep
Built on the secrets that I used to keep

It's not just a sketch
It's not just a dream
It's the soul's architecture
Or so it would seem

This is the blueprint of a memory!
The architecture of everything we used to be!
Drawn in the dust, etched in the bone
A kingdom of whispers on a crumbling throne!
In the blueprint of a memory!

Every brick is a heartbeat, every window a scar
I'm mapping out the distance to who we really are
I see the kitchen light
From twenty years ago
The blueprints say: Stay, but the clock says: Go
We're engineering hope through the wreckage of years
A cathedral of laughter
And a river of tears

You can't tear it down!
You can't burn it out!
It's the only home I have left to talk about!

This is the blueprint of a memory!
The architecture of everything we used to be!
Drawn in the dust, etched in the bone
A kingdom of whispers on a crumbling throne!
In the blueprint of a memory!

So tell me
Does the blueprint remain?
Still here
