Ocean Line

John Mader

Sunset falling by the shore
Golden light across the floor
Your wet hair dancing in the breeze
Saltwater hanging from your sleeves
Your footprints fading in the sand
While I was reaching for your hand
We stayed there watching daylight fade
Like time was scared of what we made

Last light down by the sea
You were right there next to me
We had a world
Soft and slow
Last light down by the sea
Now you're just a memory
The waves still crash
The cold wind blows
And the sky still burns in orange glow

Old songs playing from your phone
Making silence feel like home
You smiled while the night turned blue
Like the stars were made for you
Cold air touching both our skin
While the tide kept rolling in
Every second felt too fast
Like we knew it couldn't last

You said
Promise you won't forget this place
Or the way the sunset hit my face
Your voice still echoes in my head
Like a dream that never left
Now every wave pulls me apart
Dragging pieces of my heart
Back to where we used to go
When the world still moved slow

Last light down by the sea
You were everything to me
We had a world
Warm and bright
Last light down by the sea
Now it's just a memory
The Moon comes out
The Sun says goodbye
And I still miss you every night

Sometimes I drive back to the coast
Just to feel you for a moment close
While the sunset fades away
Like you did that day
