Eu tinha um amigo que não falava muitoI had a friend who didn't speak too much
porque sua laringe não era completa.'cause his larynx wasn't complete.
Tudo que ele conseguia fazer era grunhir o dia todoAll he could do was grunt the whole day long
o que significava que ele queria comer.what meant he wanted to eat.
E embora nunca falássemos em palavrasAnd although we never spoke in words
com certeza nos entendíamos,we surely understood,
se um estava se divertindo ou nãowhether the other was having fun or not
conseguíamos perceber o humor um do outro.we could tell each others mood.

Quando ele estava doente, eu fiquei com ele a noite todaWhen he was ill I stayed with him all night
e o vigiei até ele melhorar.and watched him 'til he was fine.
Havia dias em que brincávamos na terra o dia todo,There were days we played with dirt all day,
havia dias em que só bebíamos vinho.there were days we drank nothing but wine.
Mas então um caminhão apareceu na nossa portaBut then this truck came driving to our house
e levou meu amigo embora.and he took my friend away.
Meu amigo se foi e a vida não faz sentidoMy friend has gone and life just has no sense
não sou nada desde aquele dia.I've been nothing since that day.

Meu pai disse que era o melhor para ele,My father said it was best for him,
que ele foi para um lugar melhor.that he went to a better place.
Mas eu achei difícil acreditarBut I found that hard to believe
porque havia um grande rastro de sangue.'cause there was a big blood trace.
A orelha dele foi cortada da cabeçaHis ear was cut off of his head
ele gritou tão alto.he cried it out so loud.

Quando tentaram pegá-lo para o caminhãoWhen they tried to catch him for the truck
tudo que ele podia fazer era cagar, mijar e chorar.all he could do was shit, piss and cry.
Ele se virou e nós trocamos olhares,He turned around and we caught each others eyes,
ele me olhou perguntando por quê.he looked at me wondering why.
Ele me olhou como se eu o tivesse traídoHe looked at me as if I betrayed him
mas não havia nada que eu pudesse fazer.but there was nothing I could do.
Então, desde aquele dia, nunca mais toquei em carneSo since that day, I've never touched any meat
