Ame-me

I read a note my grandma wrote back in 1923

Grandpa kept it in his coat and he showed it once to me

He said," Boy you might not understand, but a long long timeago

Grandma's daddy didn't like me none, but I loved your grandmaso

We had this crazy plan to meet, and run away together

Get married in the first towm we come to and live forever

But nailed to the tree where we supposed to meet instead

I found this letter and this is what it said

*If you get there before I do, don't give up on me

I'll meet you when my chores are through, I don't know how longI'll be

But I'm not gonna let you down, Darling wait and see

And between now and then till I see you again

I'll be loving you..love me

I read those words just hours before my grandma passed away

In the doorway of a church where me and grandpa stopped to pray

I know I never seen him cry in all my fifteen years

But as he said these words to her

His eyes filled up with tears

Meu avô guardou no casaco e me mostrou uma vez

Ele disse: "Garoto, você pode não entender, mas há muito, muito tempo atrás

O pai da sua avó não gostava de mim, mas eu amava sua avó

Tínhamos um plano maluco de nos encontrar e fugir juntos

Nos casar na primeira cidade que encontrássemos e viver para sempre

Mas pregado na árvore onde deveríamos nos encontrar, em vez disso

Eu encontrei esta carta e isso é o que estava escrito

*Se você chegar lá antes de mim, não desista de mim

Eu vou te encontrar quando minhas tarefas terminarem, não sei quanto tempo vou levar

Mas não vou te decepcionar, querida, espere e veja

Eu li essas palavras apenas algumas horas antes da minha avó falecer

Na porta de uma igreja onde eu e meu avô paramos para rezar

Eu sei que nunca o vi chorar em todos os meus quinze anos

Mas enquanto ele dizia essas palavras para ela

Os olhos dele se encheram de lágrimas
