Fractured Light

Sinalé

I was carried by borrowed hands
In a land where no love stands
Strong arms pulled my legs to run
Chasing life where rust had won

My words stretched thin by quiet need
To mend the place that always bled
My fingers reached but couldn't touch
What my heart still wanted so much

I saw your eyes meet mine
Holding up the same old light
I stayed awhile inside your smile
Till it dimmed in self-denial

Years went by, my face fell through
Cracked the shell I thought I knew
I gathered shards to make me whole
Forgot the shape that held my soul

Lost inside the turns I made
Pretty lies I learned to praise
I bent the truth, I burned it through
To fill the space that belonged to you

I walked beside you, I was there
Living breath within the air
I took your hand when you fell apart
Lit the skin around your heart

I don't deserve
(Just observe)
I don't belong
(You are the song)
I cannot thrive
(You are alive)
I cannot start
(You did your part)

I accept what I came to be
The broken parts that carry me
The shattered glass lets light come in
Where it stays
Where it's always been
