Switches held by tape again
The landlord's kindest cruelty
I kept the tins not for their labels
But how they held what left so cleanly

All the rooms I’ve rented knew
Just enough to let me through
They priced my shadow by the span
Then erased the dent where I once ran

Some with views of bricked-in skies
Most with panels trained as spies
One sang through pipes in minor turns
Another took my lock and let it burn

All the rooms I’ve rented grew
Around me like a second shoe
They held my heat then aired it out
Professional ghosts of that no doubt
