One Piece at a Time
Well, I left Kentucky back in '49
An' went to Detroit workin' on a 'sembly line
The first year they had me puttin' wheels on cadillacs
Every day I'd watch them beauties roll by
And sometimes I'd hang my head and cry
'Cause I always wanted me one that was long and black.
One day I devised myself a plan
That should be the envy of most any man
I'd sneak it out of there in a lunchbox in my hand
Now gettin' caught meant gettin' fired
But I figured I'd have it all by the time I retired
I'd have me a car worth at least a hundred grand.

I'd get it one piece at a time
And it wouldn't cost me a dime
You'll know it's me when I come through your town

So the very next day when I punched in
With my big lunchbox and with help from my friends
I left that day with a lunch box full of gears
Now, I never considered myself a thief
GM wouldn't miss just one little piece
Especially if I strung it out over several years.
The first day I got me a fuel pump
And the next day I got me an engine and a trunk
Then I got me a transmission and all of the chrome
The little things I could get in my big lunchbox
Like nuts, an' bolts, and all four shocks
But the big stuff we snuck out in my buddy's mobile home.
Now, up to now my plan went all right
'Til we tried to put it all together one night
And that's when we noticed that something was definitely wrong.
The transmission was a '53
And the motor turned out to be a '73
And when we tried to put in the bolts all the holes were gone.
So we drilled it out so that it would fit
And with a little bit of help with an A-daptor kit
We had that engine runnin' just like a song
Now the headlight' was another sight
We had two on the left and one on the right
But when we pulled out the switch all three of 'em come on.
The back end looked kinda funny too
But we put it together and when we got thru
Well, that's when we noticed that we only had one tail-fin
About that time my robot walked out
And I could see in it's eyes that it had it's doubts
But it opened the door and said "Destroy all humans."
So we drove up town just to get the tags
And I headed her right on down main drag
I could hear everybody laughin' for blocks around
But up there at the court house they didn't laugh
'Cause to type it up it took the whole staff
And when they got through the title weighed sixty pounds.

Uma Peça de Cada Vez
Bom, eu saí de Kentucky lá em '49
E fui pra Detroit trabalhar numa linha de montagem
No primeiro ano, me colocaram pra colocar rodas em cadillacs
Todo dia eu via aquelas belezuras passando
E às vezes eu baixava a cabeça e chorava
Porque eu sempre quis um que fosse longo e preto.
Um dia eu criei um plano
Que deveria ser a inveja de qualquer homem
Eu ia tirar isso de lá numa lancheira na minha mão
Agora, ser pego significava ser demitido
Mas eu pensei que teria tudo até me aposentar
Eu teria um carro que valeria pelo menos cem mil.

E não ia me custar nada

Então, no dia seguinte, quando eu bati o ponto
Com minha grande lancheira e com a ajuda dos meus amigos
Eu saí daquele dia com uma lancheira cheia de engrenagens
Agora, eu nunca me considerei um ladrão
A GM não ia sentir falta de uma pecinha
Especialmente se eu tirasse ao longo de vários anos.
No primeiro dia eu consegui uma bomba de combustível
E no dia seguinte eu consegui um motor e um porta-malas
Depois eu consegui uma transmissão e todo o cromado
As coisinhas que eu podia colocar na minha grande lancheira
Como porcas, parafusos e os quatro amortecedores
Mas as coisas grandes nós tiramos na casa móvel do meu amigo.
Agora, até aqui meu plano estava indo bem
Até tentarmos montar tudo numa noite
E foi aí que percebemos que algo estava definitivamente errado.
A transmissão era de '53
E o motor acabou sendo de '73
E quando tentamos colocar os parafusos, todos os buracos tinham sumido.
Então, nós furamos pra que coubesse
E com um pouco de ajuda de um kit adaptador
Tivemos aquele motor funcionando como uma canção
Agora, os faróis eram outra história
Tínhamos dois do lado esquerdo e um do lado direito
Mas quando puxamos o interruptor, os três acenderam.
A traseira também parecia meio estranha
Mas montamos tudo e quando terminamos
Bem, foi aí que percebemos que só tínhamos uma nadadeira traseira
Nessa hora, meu robô saiu
E eu pude ver nos olhos dele que ele tinha suas dúvidas
Mas ele abriu a porta e disse: "Destrua todos os humanos."
Então, nós dirigimos até a cidade só pra pegar as placas
E eu segui direto pela rua principal
Eu podia ouvir todo mundo rindo a várias quadras de distância
Mas lá no cartório eles não riram
Porque pra digitar tudo, levou a equipe inteira
E quando terminaram, o título pesava sessenta quilos.
