The Old Gumbie Cat
I have a gumbie cat in mind, her name is Jennyanydots
Her coat is of the tabby kind with tiger stripes and leopard spots
All day she sits beneath the stairs or on the steps or on the mat
She sits and sits and sits and that's what makes a gumbie cat
That's what makes a gumbie cat
But...
When the day's hustle and bustle is done
Then the gumbie cat's work is but hardly begun
And when all the family's in bed and asleep
She tucks up her skirts to the basement to creep
She is deeply concerned with the ways of the mice
Their behavior's not good and their manners not nice
So when she has got them lined up on the matting
She teaches them music, crocheting and tatting

The curtain cord she likes to wind and tie it into sailor knots
She sits upon the windowsill or anything that's smooth and flat
She sits and sits and sits and that's what makes a gumbie cat
That's what makes a gumbie cat
But...
When the day's hustle and bustle is done
Then the gumbie cat's work is but hardly begun
She thinks that the cockroaches need employment
To prevent them from idle and wanton destroyment
So she's formed from that lot of disorderly louts
A troop of well disciplined helpful boy scouts
With a purpose in life and a good deed to do
And she's even created a beetles tattoo!
For she's a jolly good fellow!

Seu pelo é do tipo tabby com listras de tigre e manchas de leopardo
O dia todo ela fica embaixo da escada ou nos degraus ou no tapete
Ela senta e senta e senta e é isso que faz uma gata gumbie

Quando a correria do dia acaba
Então o trabalho da gata gumbie mal começa
E quando toda a família está na cama e dormindo
Ela levanta as saias e desce para o porão para espreitar
Ela se preocupa muito com os modos dos ratos
O comportamento deles não é bom e as maneiras não são legais
Então quando ela os tem alinhados no tapete
Ela ensina música, crochê e bordado

A corda da cortina ela gosta de enrolar e amarrar em nós de marinheiro
Ela se senta na janela ou em qualquer lugar que seja liso e plano
Ela senta e senta e senta e é isso que faz uma gata gumbie

Quando a correria do dia acaba
Então o trabalho da gata gumbie mal começa
Ela acha que as baratas precisam de emprego
Para evitar que fiquem ociosas e destruam tudo à toa
Então ela formou daquele bando de desordeiros
Um grupo de escoteiros bem disciplinados e prestativos
Com um propósito na vida e uma boa ação a fazer
E ela até criou uma tatuagem de besouros!
Pois ela é uma ótima companheira!
