It is myth

that Amazons chopped off one breast

to make room for the strap of the labyrice.

It is not a myth that womyn sacrifice, nor that bodies are inconvenient,

Sometimes, we surrender the feminine for the fight, shift the weight of progress to our hips

And balance guns like babies.

That is no myth, that is survival.

My father once said he believed myth propagated the species,

That the urge to believe was mostly stronger than belief itself and so survival

Was belief in myth.

The lump in my sister's breast has led her to believe that her breasts are unreliable.

Still, she would rather have two.

She wonders who would be qualified to erase one half of her

And what sort of weapon they would choose.

My father was the first to suggest

that lesbianism was a weapon. He said

"For the most part, bodies are inconvenient, at least lesbian bodies are political."

It was convenient that I found breasts lovely.

My sister asks if she would be lovely with only one breast. I tell her "yes,

That bodies are political," I tell her "yes, that sacrifice is progress."

She tells me "yes, that is your myth."

She tells me "this is my survival."

É um mito

que as amazonas cortavam um seio

para fazer espaço para a alça da labirice.

Não é um mito que as mulheres se sacrificam, nem que os corpos são inconvenientes,

Às vezes, abrimos mão do feminino pela luta, deslocamos o peso do progresso para os quadris

E equilibramos armas como se fossem bebês.

Isso não é mito, isso é sobrevivência.

Meu pai uma vez disse que acreditava que o mito propagava a espécie,

Que o impulso de acreditar era, na maioria das vezes, mais forte do que a própria crença e assim a sobrevivência

Era acreditar no mito.

O nódulo no seio da minha irmã a fez acreditar que seus seios são imprevisíveis.

Ainda assim, ela prefere ter dois.

Ela se pergunta quem estaria qualificado para apagar uma metade dela

E que tipo de arma escolheriam.

Meu pai foi o primeiro a sugerir

que o lesbianismo era uma arma. Ele disse

"Na maior parte, os corpos são inconvenientes, pelo menos os corpos lésbicos são políticos."

Era conveniente que eu achasse os seios adoráveis.

Minha irmã pergunta se ela seria adorável com apenas um seio. Eu digo a ela "sim,

Que os corpos são políticos," eu digo a ela "sim, que o sacrifício é progresso."

Ela me diz "sim, esse é o seu mito."

Ela me diz "isso é a minha sobrevivência."
