Oor Hamlet
There was this king sitting in his garden all alane
When his brother in his ear poured a wee bit of henbane.
He stole his brother's crown and his money and his widow.
But the dead king walked and got his son and said "Hey listen, kiddo!
"I've been killed, and it's your duty then to take revenge on Claudius.
Kill him quick and clean and show the nation what a fraud he is."
The boy said "Right, I'll do it. But I'll have to play it crafty.
So no one will suspect me, I'll kid on that I'm a dafty."
Then with all except Horatio, cuz he counts him as a friend,
Hamlet, that's the boy, puts on he's round the bend.
But because he was not ready for obligatory killing,
He tried to make the king think he was tuppence off a shilling.
Got a rise out of Polonius, treats poor Ophelia vile,
Told Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Denmark's a bloody jail.
Then a troupe of travelling actors, like Seven Eighty-four,
Arrived to do a special one night gig in Elsinore.
Hamlet! Hamlet! Loved his mommy!
Hamlet! Hamlet! Acting barmy!
Hamlet! Hamlet! Hesitatin',
Wonders if the ghost's a cheat
And that is why he's waitin'.
Then Hamlet wrote a scene for the players to enact
While Horatio and he watched to see if Claudius cracked.
The play was called "The Mousetrap" (not the one that's running now),
And sure enough, the king walked out before the final bow.
So Hamlet's got the proof that Claudius gave his dad the dose.
The only problem being, now, that Claudius knows he knows.
So while Hamlet tells his mother her new husband's not a fit one,
Uncle Claude puts out a contract with the English king as hit man.
And when Hamlet killed Polonius, the concealed corpus delecti,
Was the king's excuse to send him for an English hempen necktie.
With Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to make sure he got there,
Hamlet jumped the boat and put the finger on that pair.
Meanwhile Leartes heard his dad had been stabbed through the arras.
He came running back to Elsinore, toot-sweet, hotfoot from Paris.
And Ophelia, with her dad killed by the man she wished to marry,
After saying it with flowers, she committed hari-cari.
Hamlet! Hamlet! Nae messin'!
Hamlet! Hamlet! Learned his lesson!
Hamlet! Hamlet! Yorick's crust
Convinced him that men, good or bad,
At last must come to dust.
Then Leartes lost his cool and was demanding retribution.
The king said "Keep your head, and I'll provide you a solution."
He arranged a sword fight for the interested parties,
With a blunted sword for Hamlet, and a sharpened sword for Leartes.
To make things double sure, the old "belt and braces" line,
He fixed a poison sword tip, and a poison cup of wine.
The poison sword got Hamlet, but Leartes went and muffed it,
'Cause he got stabbed himself, and he confessed before he snuffed it.
Then Hamlet's mommy drank the wine, and as her face turned blue,
Hamlet said "I think the king's a baddie through and through."
"Incestuous, murderous, damned Dane," he said to be precise,
And made up for hesitating once by killing Claudius twice,
For he stabbed him with the sword and forced the wine between his lips.
He cried "The rest is silence," and cashed in all his chips.
They fired a volley over him that shook the topmost rafter.
And Fortinbras, knee-deep in Danes, lived happily ever after.
Hamlet! Hamlet! Oh so gory!
Hamlet! Hamlet! End of story!
Hamlet! Hamlet! I'm away!

O Rei Hamlet
Havia um rei sentado no seu jardim, todo sozinho
Quando seu irmão lhe soprou um pouco de veneno no ouvido.
Ele roubou a coroa do irmão, seu dinheiro e sua viúva.
Mas o rei morto apareceu e chamou seu filho, dizendo "Escuta, garoto!
"Eu fui assassinado, e é seu dever se vingar de Cláudio.
Mate-o rápido e limpo e mostre à nação que ele é um fraudulento."
O garoto disse "Beleza, eu vou fazer isso. Mas vou ter que ser esperto.
Pra ninguém suspeitar de mim, vou fingir que sou um idiota."
Então, com todos, exceto Horácio, porque ele o considera um amigo,
Hamlet, esse é o garoto, finge que está pirado.
Mas como ele não estava pronto para o assassinato obrigatório,
Tentou fazer o rei pensar que estava com a cabeça nas nuvens.
Provocou Polônio, tratou a pobre Ofélia de forma vil,
Disse a Rosencrantz e Guildenstern que a Dinamarca é uma prisão cruel.
Então uma trupe de atores viajantes, como em 1784,
Chegou para fazer um show especial em Elsinore.
Hamlet! Hamlet! Amava sua mamãe!
Hamlet! Hamlet! Agindo como um doido!
Hamlet! Hamlet! Hesitando,
Se perguntando se o fantasma é uma farsa
E é por isso que está esperando.
Então Hamlet escreveu uma cena para os atores encenarem
Enquanto Horácio e ele assistiam para ver se Cláudio se entregava.
A peça se chamava "A Armadilha" (não a que está em cartaz agora),
E claro, o rei saiu antes do último ato.
Então Hamlet tem a prova de que Cláudio deu a dose ao pai.
O único problema agora é que Cláudio sabe que ele sabe.
Enquanto Hamlet diz à mãe que seu novo marido não é o cara certo,
O tio Cláudio coloca um contrato com o rei inglês como assassino.
E quando Hamlet matou Polônio, o corpo escondido,
Foi a desculpa do rei para mandá-lo para um enforcamento inglês.
Com Rosencrantz e Guildenstern para garantir que ele chegasse lá,
Hamlet pulou do barco e apontou o dedo para aquele par.
Enquanto isso, Laertes soube que seu pai tinha sido esfaqueado.
Ele voltou correndo para Elsinore, rapidinho, direto de Paris.
E Ofélia, com seu pai morto pelo homem que desejava se casar,
Depois de se despedir com flores, cometeu suicídio.
Hamlet! Hamlet! Sem brincadeira!
Hamlet! Hamlet! Aprendeu a lição!
Hamlet! Hamlet! O crânio de Yorick
O convenceu de que os homens, bons ou maus,
Por fim, devem voltar ao pó.
Então Laertes perdeu a calma e exigiu retribuição.
O rei disse "Mantenha a cabeça fria, e eu vou te dar uma solução."
Ele organizou um duelo para as partes interessadas,
Com uma espada cega para Hamlet e uma espada afiada para Laertes.
Para garantir que tudo desse certo, a velha linha "cinto e suspensórios",
Ele preparou uma ponta de espada envenenada e um copo de vinho envenenado.
A espada envenenada atingiu Hamlet, mas Laertes se atrapalhou,
Porque ele mesmo foi esfaqueado e confessou antes de morrer.
Então a mãe de Hamlet bebeu o vinho, e enquanto seu rosto ficava azul,
Hamlet disse "Acho que o rei é um vilão de verdade."
"Incestuoso, assassino, maldito dinamarquês," ele disse para ser preciso,
E compensou a hesitação uma vez matando Cláudio duas vezes,
Pois o esfaqueou com a espada e forçou o vinho entre seus lábios.
Ele gritou "O resto é silêncio," e apostou todas as suas fichas.
Fizeram uma salva de tiros sobre ele que balançou a viga mais alta.
E Fortinbras, até o pescoço em dinamarqueses, viveu feliz para sempre.
Hamlet! Hamlet! Oh, tão sangrento!
Hamlet! Hamlet! Fim da história!
