Face My Face

A shadow walks, alone and free
From mist it drifts, no eyes to see
No one asks from where it came
No voice calls out, no light, no name

To my own grave, I lead my way
Through shadows thick, no light of day
With bitter taste, I drink my pain
For poets, lost, must rise again

So let me drink, a final breath
To stain the sense of mourning’s depth
For poets live where shadows gleam
Their words, alive, a burning dream

Where’s my gallows, end, or mark?
Who sows salt on hands gone dark?
My world has crumbled, dust and trace
In mirrored eyes, I face my face

Who stands there, cold within the glass
Reflects my fear, my questions ask
I'm an island lost in night
