It's splendour was highly acclaimed,
Os Elfos Noldor cresceram fortes e poderosos,
The Noldor Elf grew mighty and strong,
Na terra onde Turgon reinava,
In the land were Turgon Reigned,
Então Tuor foi enviado por Ulmo
Then Tuor was sent by Ulmo-
O senhor do oceano e das marés,
The lord of the ocean and sea,
Para dizer ao povo de Gondolin,
To tell the people of Gondolin,
Preparar-se para lutar ou fugir.
Prepare to fight or flee.

Mas Turgon era teimoso,
But Turgon he was stubborn,
"Isso eu não vou fazer!".
"That will I not do!".
Ele tinha aprendido a amar sua cidade,
He had grown to love his city,
E o terror de Morgoth conhecia.
And the terror of Morgoth he knew.

A cidade foi descoberta,
The city was discovered,
E Morgoth enviou suas legiões,
And Morgoth sent his legions,
Orcs guerreiros com dragões de fogo,
Orc warriors with the fire-drakes,
Liderados pelos demoníacos Balrogs.
Led by the Balrog demons.

Eles apareceram diante dos portões e rapidamente os Portais caíram,
They appeared before the gates and quickly the Gates fell,
O caminho agora estava acessível. Através dos salões dos Elfos,
The way was now clear, Through the Elven halls,
Os Orcs cheios de ódio mergulhados na violação,
The orcs of such hatred poured into the breach,

With scimitars they stabbed both man and beast.

The blows from their hammers, The dint of their clubs,

The orcs fell like leaves but this was not enough.

The lord of the Balrogs gathered his demons,

and made for the folk of the hammer.

They fled in terror rather than of craft,

Took the lives of seven orcs to pay for their own.

Gothmog drove the dragons into the cities heart,
Orcs e Noldor abateram-se sob a confusão.
Orcs and Noldor fell under the confusion.
As frias serpentes começaram a rasgar as ruas à distância.
The cold-drakes began to tear the streets apart.
Os Noldor começaram a perceber que a batalha estava perdida.
The Noldor began to realise the battle they'd lose.

Mas agora jaz semelhante a ruínas
But now it lay akin to ruins,
Conforme o fogo devorou seu interior
As the fire devoured its insides,
A última esperança para os Elfos que viveram
The last hope for the Elves who lived-
Era correr, fugir e se esconder.
Was to run and flee and hide.

Mas Turgon era teimoso,
But Turgon was a noble king-
"Isso eu não vou fazer!".
"That will I not do!",
Ele tinha aprendido a amar sua cidade,
He stayed to die with the city,
E o terror de Morgoth conhecia.
The only one he knew.
