Caro Senhor, escrevo esta nota pra te contar da minha situaçãoDear Sir, I write this note to you to tell you of me plight
E no momento em que escrevo, não sou uma visão muito boa;and at the time of writing, I am not a pretty sight;
Meu corpo tá todo roxo e meu rosto tá cinzame body is all black and blue, me face a deathly gray
E escrevo essa nota pra explicar por que o Paddy não tá no trabalho hoje.and I write this note to say why Paddy's not at work today.

Enquanto trabalhava no décimo quarto andar, tive que limpar alguns tijolos;While working on the fourteenth floor some bricks I had to clear;
Agora, jogar eles de uma altura dessas não foi uma boa ideia.now, to throw them down from such a height was not a good idea.
O chefe não ficou muito feliz, ele é um cara bem chatothe foreman wasn't very pleased, he beeing an awkward sod
Ele disse que eu teria que descer com eles na escada, na minha caixa.he said I'd have to cart them down the ladders in me hod.

Agora, limpar todos esses tijolos à mão foi muito devagar,Now, clearing all these bricks by hand it was so very slow,
Então eu levantei um barril e prendi a corda embaixo.so I hoisted up a barrel and secured the rope below.
Mas na pressa de fazer o serviço, eu não percebiBut in me haste to do the job I was to blind to see
Que um barril cheio de tijolos era mais pesado que eu.that a barrelful of building bricks was heavier than me.

Então, quando eu desamarrei a corda, o barril caiu como chumboSo when I untied the rope the barrel fell like lead
E me segurando firme na corda, eu comecei a subir.and clinging tightly to the rope I started up instead.
Bem, eu subi como um foguete até que, pra minha decepção, eu descobriWell, I shot up like a rocket till to my dismay I found
Que na metade do caminho, encontrei o maldito barril descendo.that halfway up I met the bloody barrel comming down.

Bem, o barril quebrou meu ombro enquanto descia velozWell, the barrel broke me shoulder as to the ground it sped,
E quando cheguei no topo, bati a polia com a cabeça.and when I reached the top I banged the pully with my head.
Bem, eu me segurei firme, atordoado com esse golpe brutalWell, I clung on tight through numbed shock from this almighty blow
E o barril derramou metade dos tijolos quatorze andares abaixo.and the barrel spilled out half the bricks fourteen floors below.

Agora, quando esses tijolos caíram do barril pro chãoNow, when these bricks had fallen from the barrel to the floor
Eu então pesava mais que o barril e comecei a descer de novo;I then outweighed the barrel and so started down once more;
Ainda me segurando firme na corda, eu fui em direção ao chão,still clinging tightly to the rope, I sped towards the ground,
E caí em cima dos tijolos quebrados que estavam todos espalhados.and I landed on the brocken bricks that were all scattered round.

Bem, eu fiquei lá gemendo no chão, pensei que já tinha passado o pior,Well, I lay there groaning on the ground, I thougth I'd passed the worst,
Quando o barril bateu na polia e então a parte de baixo estourou.when the barrel hit the pully-wheel and then the bottom burst.
Bem, uma chuva de tijolos caiu sobre mim, eu não tinha esperançaWell, a shower of bricks rained down on me, I hadn't got a hope
Enquanto eu estava lá gemendo no chão, soltei a maldita corda.as I lay there moaning on the ground, I let go of the bloody rope.

O barril, sendo mais pesado, começou a descer de novo,The barrel than being heavier, it started down once more,
E caiu bem em cima de mim, enquanto eu estava no chão.and landed right across me, as I lay upon the floor.
Bem, quebrou três costelas e meu braço esquerdo e só posso dizerWell, it broke three ribs and my left arm and I can only say
Que espero que você entenda por que o Paddy não tá no trabalho hoje.that I hope you'll understand why Paddy's not a work today.
