The Shape Of Freedom
G. Govastki
I spent my life with one foot out the door
Always searching, wanting something more
I thought that freedom meant to walk away
To never let my heart decide to stay
I crossed the miles beneath an open sky
Still wondering what I was trying to find
But every road, no matter where it led
Brought me back to things I thought I'd left
Maybe I was looking far too wide
For a place where I could feel alive
Now I can breathe and let the silence stay
I don't have to run so far away
Freedom isn't running from the rain
Or leaving every memory behind
It's learning what is worth the pain
And keeping what brings peace of mind
I don't need a distant horizon
Or a life I've never known
Maybe freedom has a shape
And it feels a little like home
I used to think that roots would hold me down
That staying meant I'd never leave this town
But roots can grow and still reach for the sky
And I can stay without asking myself why
I don't need every answer in my hands
Or map my life according to a plan
Some things are worth the courage to hold
Some things grow lighter when we let them go
I can be still and still be free
There's more to life than what I see
I don't need to know where I belong
Or spend my life just moving on
I'll keep the love that helps me shine
And leave behind what isn't mine
The world is wide, but now I know
There's no need to run to grow
