Não é tão perto e não é tão longe.It isn't too near and it's not far away.
Não é um lugar onde eu gostaria de ficar.It's not a place where I'd want to stay.

Porque os coelhos não tinham o que comer.Because the rabbits had nothing to eat.

O inverno chegou com um vento gelado.The winter came in with a cold icy blast.
Matou as flores e secou o gramado.It killed off the flowers and killed off the grass.
Os coelhos estavam famintos por causa do frio.The rabbits were starving because of the freeze.
Começaram a comer a casca das árvores, que desafio.They started eating the bark off the trees.

Porque os coelhos não tinham o que comer.Because the rabbits had nothing to eat.

Os fazendeiros disseram: "Isso não pode continuar.The farmers said, "This sort of thing just won't do.
Nossas árvores vão morrer quando os coelhos acabar.Our trees will be dead when the rabbits get through.
Vamos ter que envenenar os coelhos, é claro;We'll have to poison the rabbits, it's clear;
Ou não teremos colheita no próximo ano, que desamparo."Or we'll have no crops to harvest next year."

Então trouxeram o veneno e espalharam por aí.So they brought the poison and spread it around.
E logo coelhos mortos começaram a aparecer, que agonia.And soon dead rabbits began to be found.
Os cães comeram os coelhos e os fazendeiros só disseram:Dogs ate the rabbits and the farmers just said,
"Vamos envenenar esses coelhos até o último cão morrer.""We'll poison those rabbits 'til the last dog is dead."

Lá no céu, aves carniceiras estavam a espreitar.Up in the sky there were meat-eating fowls.
Os coelhos mortos envenenaram gaviões e corujas a voar.The dead rabbits poisoned the hawks and the owls.
Milhares de camundongos que os gaviões costumavam caçarThousands of field mice the hawks used to chase
Estavam se multiplicando por todo lugar.Were multiplying all over the place.

Os campos e prados estavam áridos e marrons.The fields and the meadows were barren and brown.
Os ratos ficaram famintos e foram pra cidade, que confusão.The mice got hungry and moved into town.
O povo da cidade seguiu o conselho do fazendeiroThe city folks took the farmer's advise
E todos começaram a envenenar os ratos, que desespero.And all of them started to poison the mice.

Havia ratos mortos em todos os apartamentos e casas.There were dead mice in all the apartments and flats.

O cheiro era horrível e fico feliz em dizerThe smell was awful and I'm glad to say

As pulgas se perguntavam: "Onde podemos ficar?"The fleas asked each other, "Where can we stay?"
Elas estão nas pessoas desde então até hoje, que azar.They've been on the people from then 'til this day.
