"INTRO ~ What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to be human?
I cannot help but suspect that at one time in the history of thinking
that people believed that it meant that we were spiritual and that we
could make choices and were capable of aspiring to higher ideals...
like maybe loyalty or maybe faith... or maybe even love.
But now we are told by people who think they know, that we vary from
amoeba only in the complexity of our makeup and not in what we
essentially are. They would have us think as Dysart said that we are
forever bound up in certain genetic reigns - that we are merely products
of the way things are and not free - not free to be the people who make
them that way. They would have us see ourselves as products so that
we could believe that we were something to be made - something to
be used and then something to be disposed of. Used in their wars -
used for their gains and then set aside when we get in their way.
Well, who are they? They are the few who sit at the top of the heap -
dung heap though it is - and who say it is better to reign in Hell than
to serve in Heaven. Well, I do not know that we can have a Heaven
here on earth, but I am sure we need not have a Hell either.
What does it mean to be human? I cannot help but believe that it means
we are spiritual - that we are responsible and that we are free - that
we are responsible to be free."

INTRO ~ O que significa ser humano? O que significa ser humano?
Não posso deixar de suspeitar que, em algum momento da história do pensamento,
as pessoas acreditaram que isso significava que éramos espirituais e que
podíamos fazer escolhas e éramos capazes de aspirar a ideais mais altos...
como talvez lealdade ou talvez fé... ou talvez até amor.
Mas agora nos dizem pessoas que acham que sabem, que variamos de
ameba apenas na complexidade da nossa composição e não no que somos
esencialmente. Eles querem que pensemos, como disse Dysart, que estamos
para sempre presos em certos laços genéticos - que somos meros produtos
do jeito que as coisas são e não livres - não livres para sermos as pessoas
que as fazem assim. Eles querem que nos vejamos como produtos para que
possamos acreditar que somos algo a ser feito - algo a ser
utilizado e depois descartado. Usados em suas guerras -
usados para seus ganhos e depois deixados de lado quando atrapalhamos.
Bem, quem são eles? Eles são poucos que estão no topo da pilha -
pilha de esterco, embora seja - e que dizem que é melhor reinar no Inferno do que
servir no Céu. Bem, não sei se podemos ter um Céu
aqui na terra, mas tenho certeza de que não precisamos ter um Inferno também.
O que significa ser humano? Não posso deixar de acreditar que isso significa
que somos espirituais - que somos responsáveis e que somos livres - que
somos responsáveis por sermos livres.
Quando eu estava no ensino médio
Disseram que eu deveria tentar fazer sentido
Crescer e ser um consumidor
e não um dissidente
Não se preocupe com o sistema
Apenas cuide de si mesmo
Soou exatamente como a sabedoria
Que vem direto do Inferno
Disseram (cala a boca) não faça ondas

Ouvi tanto da baboseira deles
É um milagre eu conseguir pensar
