In the garden of springtime flowers
はるころのはなのえん
haru koro no hana no en
The passing wine cup casts a shadow
めぐるさかずきかげさして
meguru sakazuki kagesashite
The pine of a thousand years stands tall
ちよのまつがえわけいでし
chiyo no matsu ga e wakeideshi
Where is the light of olden days now
むかしのひかりいまいずこ
mukashi no hikari ima izuko

The autumn chill colors the plain
あきじんえいのしものいろ
aki jin ei no shimo no iro
Count the geese crying in the sky
なきゆくかりのかずみせて
nakiyuku kari no kazu misete
The dew wets the sword in its sheath
ううるつるぎにてりそおいし
uuru tsurugi ni terisoishi
Where is the light of olden days now
むかしのひかりいまいずこ
mukashi no hikari ima izuko

Now the moon of the ruined castle
いまこうじょうのよわのつき
ima kojo no yowa no tsuki
Shines unchanged for the sake of others
かわらぬひかりたがためぞ
kawaranu hikari ta ga tame zo
Only the ivy remains on the fence
かきにのこるはただかずら
kaki ni nokoru wa tada kazura
The pine grove whispers of a storm
まつにうたはただあらし
matsu ni uto wa tada arashi

The shadow on the celestial globe remains the same
てんじょかげはかわらねど
tenjo kage wa kawaranedo
But the glory reflects the changing world
えいこはうつるよのすがた
eiko wa utsuru yo no sugata
Even now it appears
うつさんとてかいまもなお
utsusan toteka ima mo nao
