Urso, gato e tigre tentaram, mas tinham garras demais.Bear and cat and tiger tried but had too many claws.
Cachorro e lobo, embora sábios de fatoDog and wolf though wise indeed
Tinham dentes que davam medoHad teeth t'were quite a fright
E a coruja com seus olhos cor de areia só via à noite.And owl with his tawny eyes could only see at night.

Na antiga terra do País de Gales.In the old country of wales.
Corvo encarou o solRaven stared unto the sun
E a gralha cantou canções horríveisAnd crow sang awful songs
E o coelho ficou ouvindoAnd rabbit sat a'listening
Com orelhas tão maravilhosamente longas.With ears so wondrous long.

"aha!" o trapaceiro dançou uma dança"aha!" the trickster danced a dance
De alegria e vitória doce.Of mirth and vict'ry sweet.
Ele pulou de alegria e fez um movimentoHe leapt with joy and swooped a swoop
E pousou aos pés deles.And landed at their feet.
"de todos aqui agora," disse o trapaceiro"of all here now," the trickster said
"vocês são as melhores bestas!""you are the very beasts!"
E o coelho disse, "sinto muito, senhorAnd rabbit said, "i'm sorry sir
Mas de todos, somos os menos."But of all, we are the least."

O trapaceiro sorriu e levantou uma mãoThe trickster smiled and raised a hand
E falou: "tenho um planoAnd spoke: "i have a plan
Os quatro de vocês vão me ajudarThe four of you shall help me
A ensinar o coração do homem.To teach the heart of man.
Corvo, com seu amor pela luzRaven with your love of light
O sol você vai roubar em breve.The sun you'll steal and soon.
Pois o presente de calor que dou ao homemFor the gift of warmth i give to man
É o maior benefício.To be the greatest boon.
E gralha, sua criatura tolaAnd crow, you silly creature
