Dark Room
The town is crouching
A field of windmills waits, their stupid heads turning
Stirring the night's bath
Bundles of vapour hang over the factories
Whose lights blink and loll like sleepy eyelids
The moth in the lighthouse breathes with its prehistoric parts
I feel the night snicker.
It was here,
Tangled among the litter and old Valentines
I found my coma leaking
A branch punched a hole
In the quiet that was keeping me
and
Suddenly
All the sleep fell out
Rolling over the hills in a dark warm wave
Voices of the orphan choirs threaten to overwhelm
Speeding through the skeletons of trees
Pulling their bodies bent
The wind's terrible symphony tore out my longing by the toes
My ears were emptied and renamed
The balm slid off like a bubble of oil and
Died pitifully under the choirmaster's heel
I was gutted and clinging on like a dish rag ---
But so on fire with believing
That when the storm introduced itself
I put my finger in its mouth
Quarto Escuro
A cidade está agachada
Um campo de moinhos de vento espera, suas cabeças bobas girando
Agitando o banho da noite
Pacotes de vapor pairam sobre as fábricas
Cuja luz pisca e balança como pálpebras sonolentas
A traça no farol respira com suas partes pré-históricas
Eu sinto a noite rir baixinho.
Foi aqui,
Emaranhado entre o lixo e os velhos cartões de Dia dos Namorados
Eu encontrei meu coma vazando
Um galho fez um buraco
No silêncio que me mantinha
E
De repente
Todo o sono escorreu
Rolando pelas colinas em uma onda escura e quente
Vozes dos corais de órfãos ameaçam dominar
Acelerando através dos esqueletos das árvores
Puxando seus corpos curvados
A terrível sinfonia do vento arrancou meu desejo pelos dedos dos pés
Meus ouvidos foram esvaziados e renomeados
O bálsamo escorregou como uma bolha de óleo e
Morreu miseravelmente sob o pé do regente
Eu fui esvaziado e me segurando como um pano de prato ---
Mas tão em chamas com a crença
Que quando a tempestade se apresentou
Eu coloquei meu dedo na boca dela.
