In a desert town the desert sunbeam down on a small boy laying sick in bed
It burned his fevered brow so much she witched somehow
But the sun was the shade tree instead
I chanced the whippoorwill which throne is windowsill
And overheard the boy's fevered plea
He whippoorwilled a cry to feathered friends near by
And an old time at all they made a tree
A tree of birds a bird tree soon the tree started singing merryly
Chirup chirup twee twee get on your feet sweetly sang a tree of bird
When the little boy heard that lovely song he looked all around and to his surprise
There was a wonderous tree a whinning singing tree
A tree of birds flying right before his weary eyes
With their little wings they kept cooling things
Till his fever broke and ill may flow away
The boy has tried to tell how birds made him well but no one believes him to this say

Numa cidade desértica, o sol do deserto queimava um garotinho doente na cama
Queimava sua testa febril tanto que ele se virou de algum jeito
Mas o sol era a árvore da sombra, na verdade
Eu ouvi o canto do whippoorwill que trono é o peitoril da janela
E ouvi o pedido febril do menino
Ele chamou seus amigos emplumados que estavam por perto
E em um tempo antigo, eles formaram uma árvore
Uma árvore de pássaros, uma árvore de pássaros, logo a árvore começou a cantar alegremente
Chirup chirup, twee twee, levante-se, doce, cantou uma árvore de pássaros
Quando o garotinho ouviu aquela linda canção, olhou ao redor e, para sua surpresa
Havia uma árvore maravilhosa, uma árvore que cantava e assobiava
Uma árvore de pássaros voando bem diante de seus olhos cansados
Com suas asinhas, eles continuavam refrescando as coisas
Até que sua febre quebrou e a doença foi embora
O menino tentou contar como os pássaros o curaram, mas ninguém acredita nele até hoje
