Muito frequentemente encontro confusãoVery often find confusion
Na conclusão que concluí há muito tempoIn conclusion I concluded long ago
Na minha cabeça estão muitos fatosIn my head are many facts
Que, como estudante, estudei para adquirir,That, as a student, I have studied to procure,
Na minha cabeça estão muitos fatos..In my head are many facts..
Dos quais eu gostaria de ter mais certeza de que estou certo!Of which I wish I was more certain I was sure!

O que, por exemplo, devo dizer a ele sobre mulheres?What for instance, shall I say to him of women?
Devo educá-lo sobre as antigas tradições?Shall I educate him on the ancient lines?
Devo dizer ao garoto, na medida do possível,Shall I tell the boy as far as he is able,
Para respeitar suas esposas e amar suas concubinas?To respect his wives and love his concubines?
Devo dizer a ele que todos são iguais,Shall I tell him everyone is like the other,
E que o melhor dos dois na verdade não é nenhum?And the better of the two is really neither?
Se eu disser isso, acho que ele não vai acreditar-If I tell him this I think he won't believe it-
E quase acho que eu também não acredito!-And I nearly think that I don't believe it either!-

Ou é melhor estar certo?...Or is it better to be right?...
Ou estou certo ao acreditar que posso estar errado?Or am I right when I believe I may be wrong?

Devo me unir a outras nações em aliança?Shall I join with other nations in alliance?
Se os aliados são fracos, não é melhor eu ficar sozinho?If allies are weak, am I not best alone?
Se os aliados são fortes com poder para me proteger,If allies are strong with power to protect me,
Eles não podem me proteger de tudo que possuo?Might they not protect me out of all I own?
É um perigo confiar um no outro,Is a danger to be trusting one another,
Um raramente quer fazer o que o outro deseja;One will seldom want to do what other wishes;
Mas a menos que um dia alguém confie em alguémBut unless someday somebody trust somebody
Não sobrará nada na terra, exceto peixes!There'll be nothing left on earth excepting fishes!

Há momentos em que quase pensoThere are times I almost think
Que ninguém tem certeza do que realmente sabe.Nobody sure of what he absolutely know.
Todo mundo encontra confusãoEverybody find confusion
Na conclusão que ele concluiu há muito tempoIn conclusion he concluded long ago
E me intriga aprenderAnd it puzzle me to learn
Que embora um homem possa estar em dúvida sobre o que sabe,That tho' a man may be in doubt of what he know,
Muito rapidamente ele vai lutar...Very quickly he will fight...
Ele lutará para provar que o que não sabe é verdade!He'll fight to prove that what he does not know is so!
