Don't be fooled by appearances,

As I watch the hump-backed man hobble down the high street
I say a silent prayer for myself
I was taken to the local doctor
for a consultation about my physical health
I heard him ask about my family - history
"You see, Mrs. Davies, it might be hereditary. Yes it might"
Maybe think about my family, 'cause socially could be
"You were a physical deformity"

Ev'ry morning I got up and looked in the mirror to see if thehump had
appeared on my back. To my disappointment I was not a freak.
You see, maybe there'd be side benefits to become in a cripple,
side benefits like prioroty seating at football matches. And Ithought
"If I'm gonna be a cripple, I'll go all the way"
They could photograph reality,

Não se deixe enganar pelas aparências,
mostra apenas o que o mundo já sabe.
Não confie nas evidências físicas
que as radiografias mostram.
Porque dentro de cada cidadão reto e correto, reside uma
emoção atormentada, uma personalidade psicologicamente danificada.
E ao lado de cada homem torto, está um anjo com asas,
e o espírito pode fazer coisas verdadeiramente maravilhosas.
Enquanto vejo o homem corcunda mancando pela rua,
fiz uma oração silenciosa por mim mesmo.
Fui levado ao médico local
para uma consulta sobre minha saúde física.
Ouvi ele perguntar sobre a história da minha família.
"Você vê, Sra. Davies, pode ser hereditário. Sim, pode ser."
Talvez pensar na minha família, porque socialmente poderia ser:
"Você era uma deformidade física."

Toda manhã eu me levantava e olhava no espelho para ver se a
corcunda tinha aparecido nas minhas costas. Para minha decepção, eu não era um monstro.
Você vê, talvez houvesse benefícios colaterais em ser um aleijado,
bens colaterais como assentos prioritários em jogos de futebol. E eu pensei:
"Se eu vou ser um aleijado, vou até o fim."
Eles poderiam fotografar a realidade,
mas não conseguem capturar sua fantasia.
