Rebola a vaca lá foraThe cow in the garden madly pranced,
E o vira-lata o rabo coçaand the little dog chased his tail.

O Homem da Lua pede mais umaThe Man in the Moon took another mug,

Dorme e sonha com mais cervejaAnd there he dozed and dreamed of ale,
Vai-se a noite benfazejaTill in the sky the stars were pale,
E a aurora chegando vaiand dawn was in the air.

Diz o dono ao gato altoThen the ostler said to his tipsy cat:
- Os cavalos brancos da Lua"The white horses of the Moon,
Rinchando mordem o freioThey neigh and champ their silver bits;
Mas seu dono dorme feioBut their master's been and drowned his wits,
E o sol já se insinuaand the Sun'll be rising soon!"

O gato então de novo atacaSo the cat on his fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle,
Num som de acordar finadoa jig that would wake the dead:
Vai serrando enquanto podeHe squeaked and sawed and quickened the tune,
E o dono o Homem sacodeWhile the landlord shook the Man in the Moon:
- São mais de três - diz o coitado"It's after three!" he said.

O homem levam para a colinaThey rolled the Man slowly up the hill
E o enrolam na própria Luaand bundled him into the Moon,
Os cavalos atrás galopandoWhile his horses galloped up in rear,

Mais depressa toca o violinoNow quicker the fiddle went deedle-dum-diddle;

Cavalo e vaca de bananeiraThe cow and the horses stood on their heads;
Querer dormir é brincadeiraThe guests all bounded from their beds
Todos voltam a dançarand danced upon the floor.

Pingue! Pongue! As cordas se partem!With a ping and a pang the fiddle-strings broke!
A vaca pula pra Luathe cow jumped over the Moon,
O vira-lata põe-se a rirAnd the little dog laughed to see such fun,
Um prato ameaça fugirAnd the Saturday dish went off at a run
Com colher que não é suawith the silver Sunday spoon.

A Lua redonda foi emboraThe round Moon rolled behind the hill,
E o sol que agora vai surgiras the Sun raised up her head.
Não acredita no que vêShe hardly believed her fiery eyes;
Porque, apesar do amanhecerFor though it was day, to her suprise
