Eärendil foi um marinheiro

Teceu as velas com fios de prata,
Her sails he wove of silver fair,
Também de prata é a iluminação;
Of silver were her lanterns made,
Qual cisne a proa foi esculpida,
Her prow was fashioned like a swan,
E a luz dá vida a seu pavilhão.
And light upon her banners laid.

Com armadura de antigos reis,
In panoply of ancient kings,
Malha de anéis qual manto real,
In chained rings he armoured him;
Broquel brilhante de runas cheio,
His shining shield was scored with runes
Vai protegê-lo de todo mal;
To ward all wounds and harm from him;
Pro arco um chifre deu-lhe um dragão,
His bow was made of dragon-horn,
De ébano bom as flechas que tinha;
His arrows shorn of ebony,
De fio de prata era o gibão,
Of silver was his habergeon,
De calcedônia era a bainha;
His scabbard of chalcedony;
Valente espada de aço fino,
His sword of steel was valiant,
E adamantino elmo o respalda;
Of adamant his helmet tall,
Pena de águia tráz por enfeite,
An eagle-plume upon his crest,
E sobre o peito, linda esmeralda.
Upon his breast an emerald.

He wandered far from northern strands,
