Como um ladrão, um vagabundo ou um bandido, me amarraram na carroçaLike a thief a rogue or a highwayman they tied me to the cart

Me debulharam e me embebedaram, e me secaram no fornoThe thrashed me and they steeped me, and they dried me in the kiln
Me usaram dez vezes e pior que isso, me moeram no moinhoThey used me ten times and worse than that, they ground me in the mill
Me usaram na cozinha, me usaram no salãoThey used me in the kitchen, they used me in the hall
Me usaram na sala entre as damas todasThey used me in the parlour among the ladies all

Oh, o grão de cevada é um grão cômico, faz os homens suspirarem e gemeremOh the barleycorn is a comical grain, it makes men sigh and moan
Mas quando eles bebem um copo ou dois, esquecem suas esposas em casaBut when they drink a glass or two, they forget their wives at home
