Through The Cracks

Dust in the air and shadows they dance
A quiet street where love had its chance
Now echoes of cries fill the amber sky
The world turned away as the moments drift by

Through the cracks of a frozen frame
Burning hearts play a nameless game
Hope clings tight while the sirens scream
Nightmares bleed into every dream

Fields once golden now painted in pain
River runs red like a wailing refrain
Hands that built are now forced to break
A fragile peace too easy to shake

Can you hear the whispers in the threadbare air
Promises of solace are so unfair
Grasping at straws of what used to be
Through the cracks we still try to see

Through the cracks of a fractured glass
Broken voices of the days that passed
Still they rise though the shadows lean
Fighting for the light in the in-between

A boy and his kite once painted the sky
Now torn apart as the clouds drift by
But a seed of hope beneath the freeze
Waits for the sunlight to bring its ease
