Um instante de conluio com a morte,An instant of collusion with death,
Sem esperança nem perspectiva, ainda é umWithout hope nor prospect, yet it is a
Mundo abaixo e acima e em toda a eternidade,World below and above and in all eternity,
Um presente de febre, o vento da morteA gift of fever, the wind of death
Que sustenta a vida em mim, sim,That sustains the life in me, yes,
A leveza de pairar em permanenteThe lightness of hovering in permanent
Angústia; ousei tomar essas palavras,Anguish; I dared to borrow those words,

Um raio de escuridão, uma negação,A ray of darkness, a negation,
O pão da amarguraThe bread of bitterness
Que não acende nem devoção nem fervor;that ignites neither devotion nor fervour;
Resplandecente nada!Resplendent nothingness!
Faz todas as coisas aparecerem com clareza,Make all things appear with clarity,
Arruinadas na chama da repudia,Ruined in the flame of repudiation,
Na chama de Deus!In the flame of God!
Alegria e confusão entrelaçadas,Interwoven joy and confusion,
Uma confusão cortante, asfixia de dentro,A stabbing confusion, asphyxiation from within,
Ainda assim, ganhei esta certeza:Yet I gained this certitude:
Maledicão, degradação, semeadas em mim como sementesMalediction, degradation, sown in me like seeds
Agora pertenciam à morte,Now belonged to death,
Ao abrigar um desejo pelo hediondo,in harbouring a desire for the hideous,
Eu estava chamando a morte.I was beckoning to death.
Combustão insaciável, expanda,Insatiable combustion, expand,
Este corpo é o vaso da graça!this body is the vessel of grace!

A ideia de Deus é pálida perto da de perdição,The idea of God is pale next to that of perdition,
