Dorothy's Song

The storm has passed and we're feeling all right
And the rain has stopped, the roof is still on tight
When Dorothy passed, I slept by my big sister's side
And asked if the golden ship would sail Dorothy into the light
Will it greet her up in heaven with everyone she ever knew?
And say, "Welcome Dorothy, we've been waiting for you"

I don't remember drifting to sleep that night
But I had a thousand dreams before daylight
One where a good bird was teaching me to sing
And his lesson prompted me to cry to him
"Pardon me, good bird, how could something so pretty be so sad?"
The bird said, "Kid, it's not so bad if the sad song is all you have"

When I awoke my sister was already gone
But the school bus was beeping, waiting for me to get on
And as I did, it's as if the kids already knew
There was a seat in front, even the cruel kids seemed blue

So I opened my mouth and then I started to sing
Just as the good bird told me
And I sang, "Grandma Dorothy is finally free
Glory, glory"
