My Diamond

I said that I'd married the diamond
He scoffed, and said that wasn't true
But little does he know, in my mind
I have married two
For the doctor is my diamond
Not one that I can steal or buy
But he's unbreakable, unchangeable, and wonderful
The brightest in the sky

How could he ever love me?
How could he stoop to such mediocrity?
You can look, and so will I
But you won't find him by my side tonight

Hundreds of years have passed between us
I hold every memory so dear
Although we've been meeting out of sequence
The path before me's clear
For the doctor is my starlight
Shining with splendour that I lack
But though inspiring, admiring him brings heartbreak
For stars can't love you back

How could he ever love me?
How could he stoop to such mediocrity?

Ancient though he is
He isn't there to find
It's not like I can dig him up
And say that he is mine
He's shown that he will bear with me
But why should he care for me
Much less be there for me?

Some say a sunset o'er derillium
Will sing to us as we bid adieu
But why should I take time to admire that
When he's still in my view?
For the doctor is my sunset
So very sad, yet burning bright
And he's not near me, not loving me, but far away
Away from me tonight
