Seven One

Regarding the mystery
And the magic
Associated with the number seven

The historic references
The staggering reverences
Are more than frequent
They are a constant echo

In India, Agni
The God of fire
Seven are thy fuels
Thy tongues, thy holy sages
Thy favourite haunts

In seven ways
Thy worshippers adore thee
Seven are thy sources

The Pythagorean doctrine
Refers to the author
The governor of all things
States that he is without variation
Ever like himself
And like no other
Even as the number seven

In the testaments
Old and new
Seven is written
More than one hundred
And eighty times

All the world’s a stage
And all the men and women
Merely players
They have their exits
And their entrances
And one man in his time
Plays many parts
His acts being seven ages

Infant, school-boy, lover
Soldier, justice, old age
And second childhood

Speculation spans millennia
Trace it to the night travellers
To the shepherds
Compelled to look up
To wonder at the six bodies
Moving through the night
Only to be chased away
By the seventh
The one
The Sun

We put forth the theory
Using the square and compasses
With fundamental understanding
One can accidentally create
The three, the four, the five
The six, the eight, the nine

But to make a seven-pointed polygon
One must consciously
And deliberately measure
One must be aware of the goal
And calculate to achieve it

This, in our opinion
Is what separates us
And gives us dominion
Over all of the beasts
Of this world
