Lo! Morte elevou-se um trono
Lo! Death has reared himself a throne
Em uma cidade estranha deitado sozinho
In a strange city lying alone
Far-se dentro do oeste fraca,
Far down within the dim west,
Onde o bom eo mau eo pior eo melhor
Where the good and the bad and the worst and the best
Ter ido para o descanso eterno.
Have gone to their eternal rest.
Há santuários e palácios e torres
There shrines and palaces and towers
(Torres que não tremem Time-comido!)
(Time-eaten towers that tremble not!)
Assemelhar-se a nada que é nosso.
Resemble nothing that is ours.
Ao redor, por ventos de elevação esqueci,
Around, by lifting winds forgot,
Resignadamente sob o céu
Resignedly beneath the sky
As águas melancólicas mentir.
The melancholy waters lie.

Não raios do céu santo descer
No rays from the holy heaven come down
Na longa noite daquela cidade;
On the long night-time of that town;
Mas a luz de fora do mar lúgubre
But light from out the lurid sea
Streams até as torres silenciosamente-
Streams up the turrets silently-
Brilha até os pináculos longe e livre-
Gleams up the pinnacles far and free-
Up domes-up torres-up régios salões-
Up domes- up spires- up kingly halls-
Up fanes-up babylon-como paredes-
Up fanes- up babylon-like walls-
Up sombrios caramanchões há muito esquecidos
Up shadowy long-forgotten bowers
De hera e flores esculpidas em pedra-
Of sculptured ivy and stone flowers-
Até há muitos e muitos santuário maravilhoso
Up many and many a marvellous shrine
Cuja trança frisos entrelaçam
Whose wreathed friezes intertwine
A viola, o violeta, e da videira.
The viol, the violet, and the vine.
Resignadamente sob o céu
Resignedly beneath the sky
As águas melancólicas mentir.
The melancholy waters lie.
Então, misturar as torres e as sombras não
So blend the turrets and shadows there
Isso tudo parece pendentes no ar,
That all seem pendulous in air,
Embora a partir de uma torre de orgulho na cidade
While from a proud tower in the town
Morte parece gigantescamente para baixo.
Death looks gigantically down.

Não abrir fanes e sepulturas abertas
There open fanes and gaping graves
Bocejo nível com as ondas luminosas;
Yawn level with the luminous waves;
Mas nem as riquezas lá que se encontram
But not the riches there that lie
No diamante de cada ídolo olho-
In each idol's diamond eye-
Não é o alegremente-jóias morto
Not the gaily-jewelled dead
Seduzir as águas de sua cama;
Tempt the waters from their bed;
Para não ondulações onda, que pena!
For no ripples curl, alas!
Ao longo desse deserto de vidro
Along that wilderness of glass-
Não inchaços dizer que os ventos podem ser
No swellings tell that winds may be
Após alguns distante mais feliz do mar
Upon some far-off happier sea-
Não há ânsias de vômito sugerir que os ventos foram
No heavings hint that winds have been
Em mares menos terrivelmente sereno.
On seas less hideously serene.

Mas eis que uma celeuma está no ar!
But lo, a stir is in the air!
A onda há um movimento lá!
The wave- there is a movement there!
Como se as torres tinham posto de lado,
As if the towers had thrust aside,
Em pouco afundando, o maçante maré
In slightly sinking, the dull tide-
Como se seus topos tinha dado debilmente
As if their tops had feebly given
Um vazio dentro do céu velado.
A void within the filmy heaven.
As ondas têm agora mais vermelhas que brilham
The waves have now a redder glow-
As horas estão respirando leve e de baixo
The hours are breathing faint and low-
E quando, em meio a gemidos não terrena,
And when, amid no earthly moans,
Abaixo, abaixo daquela cidade deve se contentar, portanto,
Down, down that town shall settle hence,
Inferno, passando de mil tronos,
Hell, rising from a thousand thrones,
Deve fazê-lo reverência.
Shall do it reverence.
