(Doors closing)
(Next stop)

The last two seats were side by side
Like the city had planned this ride
Rain kept racing down the glass
While strangers hurried home outside

You stepped in wearing black denim
White t-shirt, headphones low
One look across the crowded aisle
And somehow
I already knew

This wasn't just another night
You sat beside me
Close enough
To make silence louder
Than the engine

Neither one of us looked first
We watched our reflections
Meeting in the window
Instead

Your eyes found mine
Like we'd missed each other
Somewhere
In another life
One more stop
One more mile
I would've traded sunrise
For another minute
By your side
Stay
Until this city
Forgets our names

He kept pretending to read his phone
Scrolling through nothing at all
Every time the bus would turn
His shoulder leaned into mine
I could've moved

But I didn't
Some chances only happen once
And fear
Is expensive
When the right person
Sits beside you

His hands were shaking
Just enough
To tell me
He felt it too
The rain stopped
Nobody noticed
Except us

Your eyes found mine
Like we'd missed each other
Somewhere
In another life
One more stop
One more mile
I would've traded sunrise
For another minute
By your side
Stay
Before courage
Misses its train

Excuse me
The first words
Either of us spoke
You stood
I stood too
Not because it was my stop
Because I wasn't ready
To watch you disappear alone
Outside
The streets smelled like rain
The traffic lights painted your face
Green
Gold
Red
Every color
Except goodbye

Maybe we were never meant
To fall in love
Maybe we were only meant
To remember
That sometimes
A single glance
Can leave a scar
Deeper than forever
You smiled
Just once
Then disappeared
Into the crowd
Leaving your cologne
Inside my memory

The bus kept moving
I didn't
Not completely
Sometimes
When it rains
I still choose
The seat beside the window
Just in case
You do too
