Sidewalks
Gustavo Bustermann
I watch the buses swallow strangers at the corner
Everybody's carrying somewhere they belong
A woman checks her watch, a kid runs for the crosswalk
I keep moving, but it doesn't feel like going on
One block
Coffee shops are filling up with people making plans
Couples leaning into each other, talking with their hands
Everybody seems to know the shape their life is taking
I keep waiting for a sign to tell me where I'm headed
Sidewalks
Everybody's somewhere
Everybody's leaving
I'm just fucking passing through
Every road feels far from home
Strangers move around me
Still, I don't know where the hell to go
There's a man in work boots unlocking up the hardware store
He's probably done this every morning for a decade
A girl with headphones disappears into the station
Like she's got a destination waiting on the other side
And I wonder
If direction is a thing you're born with or you find
If the people who look certain ever question their own lives
Maybe everyone is guessing underneath the certainty
Maybe I'm not late, maybe I'm just taking longer
Sidewalks
Everybody's somewhere
Everybody's leaving
I'm just fucking passing through
Every road feels far from home
Strangers move around me
Still, I don't know where the hell to go
Keep walking, keep walking
Past the places I could be
Keep walking, keep walking
Till the streets become a map to me
Keep walking, keep walking
I don't need to know tonight
Keep walking, keep walking
Maybe lost is just another kind of damn life
