Product Of The Ghetto

Rock The Benevolent MC

Oh, yes, it's me, Rock The Benevolent MC
Back down in memory lane, I got a 40 o-z
In my lap and my mind snaps, going back in time
I'd be damned if I didn't start crying
I wish they were tears of joy
I take a swig from my bottle
I think about when I was a little boy
Growing up, mama didn't have much
But we had enough love, and that you can't touch
So is it reminiscent, life in the ghetto was a trip
You better pay attention
Hou might get your head blown up
That's the cost for being in the wrong place, at the wrong time
Or throwing up the wrong gang signs
It's crazy, mama had it hard as hell tryna raise me
What will I become?
I'm a product of the ghetto
Constantly on the run

Product of the ghetto
Product of the ghetto

Now I'm 5 years old, and it's off to school
Mama said, remember the Golden rule
Treat others, how you wanna be treated
Help the needed, but yo, I couldn't see it
How could we give and I ain't got nothing myself?
Besides, we're the one needed the help
I didn't think much of that room
She also said, God takes care of children and foods
But what about us?
When I asked the question, mama said: Hush
God works in mysterious ways
I can't count the time, I heard that phrase
So when was he gonna come through?
I think it's time, that I become mysterious too
Where you going? Where'd you get that?
I don't see much of you
Strangers looking for you
I'm looking out for number one
I'm a product of the ghetto
Constantly on the run

Product of the ghetto
Product of the ghetto

Now I'm older, and I think I know everything
I start to hang with the wrong crowd
Things are getting buck wild, out of hand
I'm taking the wrong path, living fast
Mama said it can't last
But what does she know?
She lives a righteous life, yet she's still in the ghetto
Struggling, tryna make ends meet
Nothing ever changes week after week
They get worse, they never get better
Folks will kick you while you're down
If you stand by and let them
I witnessed that at an early age
Life in the ghetto, animals in a cage
What's the difference? We both wanna be free
You think I love the ghetto? Think again G'
Pain, suffering, I'm not the one
Product of the ghetto
Constantly on the run

Product of the ghetto
Product of the ghetto
Product of the ghetto
Product of the ghetto

Well I'm full grown, a product of the ghetto
I moved away, but never can let go
Still was, my thoughts run deep
My boy pulled up, I jumped in
And we creep to the place
Where it all began
Ain't much changed
But I remember when we would
Steal from the neighborhood store
Mad as hell, what you looking at me for?
Pockets full, candy below
Room in my pockets so I gotta take more
Those are the days of yester year
I crack a smile made of toast, cheers
Back in my days, smoking was the thing
They still smoke, but it's crack cocaine
Beam them up Scotty, take them to the temple
Anything for cane, plain and simple
An addiction for some
Product of the ghetto
Constantly on the run

Product of the ghetto
Product of the ghetto
Product of the ghetto
Product of the ghetto

Mama get a call, it's way past midnight
She picks up the phone in fear
Wondering is it alright
Her nerves are getting worse
She's having visions of a black dress
Riding on a hearse
Just a thought of losing her only son
She pulled me, feed me
Yet the jobs half done
If I could turn back the hands of time
I give her one thing
She never had a piece of mind
One of these old days, she'd be going home
I'd be left alone, but I'd be strong
Rock The Benevolent, sent in alone
Product of the ghetto
Constantly on the run

Product of the ghetto
Product of the ghetto
